One of the best local diners. The selling point for us was their massive Gluten free menu!

  • *****

Great food, fast and polite servers. The table that was seated were bit dirty, but overall it was good.

  • *****

The food is not of the highest quality but is typical for your average diner. The service staff are very friendly, plus the owner will go above and beyond to satisfy his customers. The prices of this restaurant are a bit on the higher end and the atmosphere is a bit dark. The location is extremely easy to find with ample parking. Also it is over all well maintained and kept clean.

    food was good.

I’ve been coming here for breakfast for the past few weeks, the food is good, never had an issue with my order. I see people complaining that they wait long for their food but they’re not the only customers in the diner and the waitresses work very hard to help and assist every customer there so I don’t mind and understand. Overall I’ve had good experiences, great place
To hang out an have breakfast.

My family and I have been coming to the Green Olive Diner for close to 10 years now and we have never been disappointed with any of our meals. Especially now with everything going on. Always friendly servers, always gets our orders rights and you get a lot of food for the price. The owner greets us on numerous occasions and asks how life is going.Very personable. The entire staff is always great. If you havent been here, you need to go ?? Thank you Green Olive!

Long story short, there was a mixup with a calzone my wife and I ordered a while back. After a frustrating phone call and and experience, the owner personally delivered a replacement calzone and offered his apology. He could have written us off, as we originally had done after our experience, but he went out of his way to make things right. Thanks Brian, we're looking forward to your calzones in the future!

We like diners in general. Had never been there before. Stopped on a Sunday. Ordered Early Bird specials. Food was good, price reasonable and service great. If we're ever in the neighborhood we will surely stop again.

  • *****

Never went. It was nice and quiet. Prices were good.

Breakfast is always Great, love the coffee . I will update this post once I have tried dinner or lunch, but so far live to come here

  • *****

Had an excellent gluten free pizza from there will definitely go back I took it to go so I have no idea what it is like to eat there but the pizza was very good.
They make their own pizza dough not the frozen garbage that you get from other pizza places

First time going. We went for breakfast. Our waitress Lisa was great! She was attentive and efficient. I heard her talking to multiple customers and she was also engaging to parents and kids. The food was good and arrived in a super fast time I was shocked.

  • *****

Unbelievable food options, yet they still created food per request. Good prices and easier than most places to get seats for a large group.

  • *****

Good food, with quick, friendly, fantastic customer service. The staff does an incredible job of working together and helping each other out.
Certainly worth a visit... for the hospitality as much as the food.

  • *****

Very good food almost all around. I have had about 1/3rd of the menu since I moved to Meriden a few years back, and I have to say the portions are large, the prices are exactly as they should be, and they know when to give someone extra napkins.

Every mistake made here was fixed quickly (home fries instead of french fries etc) and I love the Western Omelette, The Philly Steak, the burgers, the pasta (huge portions) and can recommend everything other than the pizza and seafood.

Always relaxed to come here. Ample parking. Great staff. Never a long wait for the food. Definitely deserves the I'm a fan rating!

  • *****

I am gluten free due to medical reasons and your restaurant makes being GF enjoyable. You have become my favorite restaurant. I LOVE IT!
Cheri, our waitress was so awesome. Thank you for being the best!

  • *****

Excellent food and Service. My son has Celiac and they have extensive Gluten Free options, which is a live saver for me. I go out of my way to stop by there whenever I have a chance. This place is especially good for people who are looking for Gluten Free options. I recommend the Gluten Free Chicken Fingers and the Mozzarella Sticks. They do have good soups and salads as well.

  • *****

Food was outstanding, service was also outstanding. Will be back very soon. Also love the large gluten free selection.

  • *****

Food and service were both great. Atmosphere mellow. Enjoyed our dining experience.

  • *****

Consitenty across the board with breakfast and lunch. I've dined at Green Olive a hand full of times and have never been disappointed. Solid gluten free and regular options. Kind staff. Reasonably priced. Convenient location.

  • *****

This place is amazing if you are gluten free. They have their own gluten free menu with pizza, pancakes, mozzarella sticks, calzones, the list goes on! Only downfall is I brought a few family members and they did not like the non gluten free food.

  • *****

This is our second time here for breakfast. The Mediterranean omelette with feta cheese and Gyro meat is delicious. The home fries are very good with lots of onion flavor and lots of crispy pieces. Eggs, bacon, sausage, everything came out perfectly cooked to order. This is located in an old McDonald's and is very clean.

  • *****

Excellent food and service. I will return for breakfast. Very clean restaurant. The menu is huge and the gluten free menu is as well. The servers are great.

  • *****

This was my second time going to this restaurant. My waitress was great (Sherry). She treated me and my family with so patience and respect. She helped me in deciding what to choose for dinner and also encouraged us to desert , which was almost as good as the food. I will request her when I come in. The food was excellent as well.

  • *****

First time there today for Christmas dinner. So happy it was not very crowded. The waitress was a sweetheart and the food was Amazing. I highly recommend this place. If you ever go you should definitely try the Rice Pudding it was to die for.

  • *****

Super sweet wait staff. Always checking on you and friendly from the second u walk in the door! Food is great too!

  • *****

Had a wonderful meal with large portions and carefully prepared unique dishes. The menu is breakfast, lunch and dinner all day long. The staff treating you like family.

  • *****

**GLUTEN FREE**. One of our favorite diners in CT!! Not only do they make some of the freshest dishes, they have a dedicated gluten free kitchen which makes this hidden gem for celiac sufferers & gluten sensitive patrons a must-dine location. The staff is super friendly and always there to answer your questions. Service is fast and always prepared as ordered. We love love love their gluten free pizza!!

  • *****

Overall good experience. Food was cooked to order and staff were very friendly. Some of us did not like our food but that was just because we didn't like our selections. As a whole everything tasted good it's just the dish we chose wasn't what we would normally order.

  • *****

This place is a treasure for all who enter it's door. Often it is difficult for my husband and myself to find a mutually satisfying place to eat as I am gluten intolerant and he is a vegetarian. This diner on Broad St in Meriden can make a gluten free option on any part of the menu and they have delicious vegetarian options as well. Both of us found their food to be freshly prepared and of a quality I have never found in another diner. Their menu is extensive and
they make a gf mozzarella stick that was the best I have ever tasted and my gluten eating husband agrees. We look forward to sharing our find with friends.

  • *****

Green Olive In Meriden is one of the best diners in the area for variety, quality and friendliness; the latter is hard to find in the region, so it's a huge plus when you do find it. The quality of customer service usually translates to how customers are really thought of by staff, I don't trust the back of the house in any business if people aren't treated decently at the front. And by far the best gluten free menu for miles, having Celiac makes eating out very difficult. You can get almost anything on the menu GF, breakfast, lunchand dinner.

  • *****

Tried stuffed eggplant. The portion was hugh and it was hot and very tasty! Will return again when in the area.

  • *****

Food is always great and the waitstaff are wonderful! Love to stop when I'm in the area.

  • *****

Food is great. Lots of gluten free options. Kid friendly. Great location. Slow service. Very slow. If it wasn't for the service being so slow and not good I would give 5 stars.

  • *****

Served quickly and a full plate nice place for breakfast

  • *****

This was a spur of the moment stop that I am glad I made. I arrived just around noon; but admittedly, I was surprised that the place was sparsely populated. As expected, I was cheerfully greeted and quickly offered my choice of tables. Of course, I chose the counter, as I typically prefer to do. The menu was impressive, offering a wide variety of foods for breakfast, lunch or dinner. In addition to the run of the mill burger and fries, they had some pretty creative sandwiches and wraps. I chose the seafood wrap just something different. The wrap was served with a pickle and cole slaw (standard) with the option of having fries for an added cost. So, let's start with the wrap itself. It was packed with crab meat in mayo. The mayo was evenly applied so as not to smother the other flavors (Did I mention it was packed with crab meat?). The wrap also included crisp, fresh lettuce, to add crunch, and equally fresh tomato chunks that were appropriately firm and tasty. Of course, the wrap itself was lightly seared and slightly crispy, the warmth of which served as a pleasant contrast to the cool interior products. By the time I finished only half of the wrap, I had to wonder if I had room for the abundant amount of fries served. Waste not, want not. The fries were slightly less than golden brown with crispy exterior and soft interior, which released steam when snapped in half. Good stuff all, for a slightly higher than average price that was well worth it.

Love there clams casino pizza and only place that does fresh gluten free pizza and calzones bring on the cheese ?

  • *****

Great for gluten free foods - love their pancakes, pizza, and wraps. Veggie dishes are made to suit my taste. Accommodating to my dietary needs.

    Visit 6/10...

It was nice to walk in and have the waitress call us "her favorite" patrons! I have one word for this visit.."SPEED"!

Everything showed up very quickly and was really good tonight! The clam chowder was excellent and hot. My wife said her grilled cheese was OK...mine and my sister in law's wrap was plentiful. One underrated item in these meals is the Cole slaw! I could just eat that! Might order extra next time. Waitress as usual gave us long BS time. I love the smartass cashier...one of those people who will play fight with you every week! People like that add to some place's charm.

Thanks guys for a good week.

This is where I asked my boyfriend out 2 years ago. We were caught in a rainstorm and the staff couldn't have been kinder to us as we walked in, soaked to the bone. Delicious food, awesome staff, good prices

  • *****

Service was great and so was the food. I live the Mexican Omlette. I base my breakfast places on their bacon and the bacon was excellent!

  • *****

Great selection and prices for really good gluten free pizza and food. Waitresses and cooks are very nice and accommodating. Would definitely recommend.

  • *****

Great family diner, food is delicious and dining are is clean. Love how friendly staff is and you can tell they all get along. We like coming for breakfast, their omelets are good and service is quick.

  • *****

There are a wide variety of foods to choose from. The food is made to order and the portions are large. Most of the dishes I've tried are pretty good. One nice touch is that the owner often comes out of the kitchen to interact with customers. You can tell he takes pride in his restaurant.

  • *****

Awesome food and even better service.Love it

  • *****

Great food! Great service! I love that I can go in and eat or get it delivered to my house. A must visit if you are in the area! The staff is so nice and helpful!

  • *****

Good selection of diner food. You can get breakfast all day. They also have dinners and pizza. This place is great for people who have Celiac's or gluten sensitivity. They make gluten free pizza including the crust and you can get gluten free fried foods. Their gluten free fried mozzarella is exceptionally good.

  • *****

They have everything here. The soup and sandwiches are Top Flite, and the other food I saw being brought out the tables looks scrumptious. Good people, good service. Recommended!!!

  • *****

Stopped in for Breakfast.. Clean like, friendly staff and great Food, Will be back for sure!

  • *****

Lots of food and really nice people, can't wait to go again.

The waitress Elissa was wonderful, sweet, friendly and tried to be attentive, but restaurant was very busy and not enough staff. Food was great, good servings, and tasted wonderful. We will return.

  • *****

    Good good even better staff!

  • *****

I've only ever been here once but it was delicious and awesome especially when you compare it to the diner down the road

  • *****

Green Olive is a great catch-all diner. It's simple and less expensive compared to the other diners on the same street. The meals are filling and always taste fresh!

There is a large variety of meals on the menu - definitely more than the other diners on the street. However, I always find myself ordering their grilled chicken triple decker club; something about all of their simple ingredients being put together for a simple sandwich was super yummy!

As far as customer service goes, I've never had a bad experience with the waitresses. Everyone seems to be a sweetheart and always puts a smile to my face on every visit.

Whether I stop in for a chocolate milkshake or some quick pizza, I will always love this place for their simplicity and how affordable the menu is!

  • *****

My wife and I love coming here for the friendly staff, good and reasonably priced food, and their gluten free breakfast options including some pretty massive GF pancakes!

  • *****

So I am back at Green Olive, I am happy to let people know they now have WiFi. YAY I must say I will be returning more and more just for this one thing.

I'm torn between a 3.5 and a 4 star review for the Green Olive. Its food is good -- especially for diner fare. Honestly, I think you must be some kind of idiot to order seafood from a diner when there are so many great seafood places around. Green olive excels at what diners do well - Burgers, Sandwiches, and Breakfasts. Its entrees are a little weaker, but still not bad. Personally, I love their omelets and the fact that I can get a side of hot pastrami slices.

Their waitstaff are friendly, but there are huge gaps in the quality between them. Some of the waitresses are outstanding... a couple of them are horrible. For example, some waitresses wont allow the option to trade home fries for french fries, or neglect to mention changes in a dish from what is stated in the menu to what is actually served. However, they've always tried to be nice and accommodating.

The dining area is surprisingly spacious, considering it used to be a crappy mcdonalds. Seating is comfortable.

Prices for entrees can be a bit high, but sandwich prices are average and breakfast prices are quite reasonable.

They've recently started offering pizza and delivery services. The pizza was good, but not great. I like their selection though. The toppings were good, and the sauce was fine. The crust was ok, but not noteworthy. What disappointed me was the cheese. Its rare that cheese is the weak point of a pizza, and their cheese just seemed cheap and waxy. Overall the pizza was fine, but it wont often pull me away from my go-to joints, except when I'm looking to mix things up a little. That said, I think its really cool that they offer pizza at all, and I'm pretty sure that in addition to the pizza, you can get anything delivered.

The servers were very friendly. The food portions were out of sight! Everything had a fantastic flavor to it from the NY strip, the eggs Benedict, and the triple decker cheeseburger sandwich. The pickles are the yummy kosher ones and tasted very fresh. I would suggest getting a side order of the mushrooms that come with the steak...OMG to die for. Lastly the coffee is fantastic, not something I can say about other diners. THe Green Olive should be your next meal destination!!

I ordered delivery from Green Olive the other day. The fact that they deliver, in my book, is a rare and wonderful thing. The menu is quite large and they serve breakfast till closing. They are also open late which makes this diner a very doable option for any late night cravings one may have.

I originally wanted to try a pizza. Called and was very politely told that they were short a pizza cook and the night cook won't be there for another hour. Very apologetic. I'm pretty easy going. Tons of other options on the menu so not a big deal at all. And like I said, she seemed very sorry and did not give an attitude. So it was fine. I ordered onion rings and a bacon cheeseburger grinder. My friend ordered an omelet with toast and onion rings. Curly fries were also served with my grinder along with cole slaw.

The omelet looked very tasty and was ample enough portion size. As I did not taste it I will go off of my friends reaction to it by saying that it was very good and cooked well done as specified in the order.

My onion rings were a sold 4 star onion ring. Could have had a thicker batter but it was perfectly cooked and very good. My grinder was packed. Nice thick burgers, really nice quality beef. Juicy but not greasy at all. The bread was very nice. Lightly toasted with cheese melted. The bacon was thick cut and plenty of it! Overall very satisfied with the food.

The girl that delivered was very nice and pleasant. Cute and a nice smile. I'm a sucker for a nice smile. I'm wondering if she's the one I spoke to on the phone. Either way it was good dinner anyway you look at it and I will become a regular customer as long as they keep up with the quality of food and great customer service.

I read bad reviews a ways back so I never went then a friend said he found it really good. So me and another friend went to dinner last night and I was impressed with all the items on the menu. I would recommend going to their site before going as the menu is overwhelming. They also have early bird specials from 2-6PM. I got the beef kabob and basket of onion rings, my friend got the scallops. His only complaint was the small amount of tartar sauce but they were glad to provide more. The portions were huge and the beef kabobs were excellent, the meat was so tender. The fries and onion rings were done very well too. The meals came with salads and they come on a salad plate and again were generous portions. I had to take a doggy bag and am now finishing it for lunch and even reheated it is good. Yes, it is a little pricey but you get a lot for the money. I am definitely going back to try some of the other many items offered.

  • *****

Great tasting food. Must try the eggplant fries taste so good it almost taste like mozzarella sticks to me for some reason lol.

  • *****

    HUGE portions!!

Lots of parking, lots of seating, lots of menu options. Gluten-free options are also available. I ordered Three Seasons: veal, chicken, and shrimp in Francese sauce with mushrooms and roasted peppers, served over rice or pasta (I chose pasta), $18.95. Huge pieces of chicken, thick sauce, and plenty of mushrooms and peppers. Chicken was a bit on the dry side for me, and I would have preferred the pieces to be cut into bite-sized pieces. Difficult not to slurp the noodles because of how slippery they are.

Complimentary soup - choices of the day were Chicken Noodle Soup or Rhode Island Clam Chowder. I went with Chicken Noodle Soup. The soup comes in a cute little cup with an oversized spoon and crackers.

  • *****

Great selection of food and friendly staff. Clean inside..I always appreciate that. Have had many items while on my travels. Always make this a stop every Wednesday while passing through town. Great breakfast food, and sandwiches..and Brian makes a pretty good Pizza as well!

  • *****

Been here twice and looking forward to going back. Pork chops, Shrimp parm, really fresh salads. Many meals include meat, salad or soup, choice of veg, and choice of potato. Very clean. Great staff. Way better than ur average diner. Want to try it for breakfast as an alternative to IHOP, which I like a lot.

  • *****

There are two entries for their establishment. Both have the same exact information. If you are looking for reviews, the other one has 18 right now. If a moderator is reading this, is there a way to combine these?

Once I found out I had celiac disease, I was excited to find a place nearby on findmeglutenfree'. I was especially looking forward to trying their gluten free calzone.

The gluten free calzone is excellent, and their gluten free pizza is some of the best I've ever had. The portions are good and the prices are reasonable.

They also have gluten free sandwiches available - my only complaint is that when I asked if the fries were gluten free, I was told that they don't have a separate/dedicated fryer.** So, if you have celiac disease, stay away from the fries - but you have plenty of other great options! The chef hand makes the gluten free pizza and calzones (as in they don't come in frozen as they do for other places), and I was happy to learn that both were soy free as well.

** I am not sure how knowledgeable the staff is on celiac disease or cross contamination. The waitress, though very nice, seemed to think that the fries being cooked in the same oil as breaded items was okay. That is not true, it is not safe for someone with celiac disease to eat gluten free food that has been cooked in contaminated oil. It is no longer gluten free in this case. Make sure you always ask all of the necessary questions before deciding what is safe to order.

  • *****

Gluten Free menu!! Besides that, the breakfast was delicious! Portions were huge, and made just the way I like it!

  • *****

Great food , VERY CLEAN PLACE!
    Large portions per person
Good prices considering all the above. Love it. I'm sorry to say though it was not in the last week that I was here. Also 1 waitress was not nice. BUT I WOULD GO BACK LOVE THE FOOD

  • *****

So many gluten free options here! This please is a national treasure. Even the GF calzone was good (it's impossible to find GF calzones anywhere).

  • *****

I absolutely LOVE this diner! I've been too many diners growing up and none of them could even compete with this one! The menu has such a large variety starting with your breakfast, Greek dishes, Italian, Mediterranean, American, and of course my favorite, Seafood! I highly recommend for breakfast the eggs Benedict, it is so delicious and the presentation of the food just added to the deliciousness! Also I've had dinner there and ordered the early bird special and decided to try the Cornish hen with a baked potato zucchini and there amazing chicken tortellini soup, I've never had anything so flavorful and yummy not to mention the portion sizes are HUGE! Prices are very reasonable along with the waitresses who are always very social and kind and just hands awesome service! The kitchen staff and manager are the nicest people you will ever come arcoss they put so much time and dedication to preparing all the fresh homemade food! I hope my review was helpful, it's easier to pick out flaws Rather then taking the time write some positive points in reviews!:)

  • *****

We have eaten here a few times. It's great they have gluten free pizza and calzones. And the chef salads are huge Whatever we have ordered we have enjoyed. We will be back soon

  • *****

Never had a bad experience, I always get food to go. Eat here almost weekly.

  • *****

Service is always very quick and friendly. There are TONS of gluten-free options (a gluten-free alternative for almost everything on the menu) and they are actually great tasting too! Would definitely recommend to those with and without gluten intolerances. They even remembered that I needed to be gluten-free after only going there 2 times before!

  • *****

    Great omelets. Decent burgers.

  • *****

Over the years Brian and his staff have become friends of ours. They always go out of their way for us and I have never had an issue with the food or the watresses. I HIGHLY recomend them to my friends

  • *****

Great little diner, hard to find experience these days. Even better extensive gluten free options on menu for wife. Decent prices considering what things normally run. Good place.

  • *****

Great food. There minimum amount to purchase when using restaurant.com coupons is $10.00. I wish other restaurants would do the same.

  • *****

This is one of the only places I've found that has a delicious gyro salad. It's fantastic. This is definitely a locally owned joint and not a chain so you can't expect "chain" mass manufactured treatment from the staff or the food. It's like coming to your aunt's house. Sometimes she may be grumpy. Sometimes she may be fighting with someone in the kitchen. Sometimes her feet hurt so you need to give her an extra five minutes to serve you. But you love her anyway and you keep coming back because the food is good and the chairs are comfortable.

  • *****

Great place for a great meal! Went to dinner with my girl Had steak she had seafood .Was very good.Service was good also Nicole was very nice and did a good job.

  • *****

    Good!
They catered a party for me, chicken parm, eggplant parm, sausage and pepp, pastas...SO good and everyone loved it!

  • *****

Awesome breakfast and lunch. I can't speak for dinner (yet). Food is low priced but good quality. The turkey club is awesome ... Definitely not lunch meat turkey, it's the real deal. Waitresses are always friendly and give you honest answers to your questions. Service is quick. Just go there, really.

  • *****

BEST Diner I've been to in a while! Very clean, friendly staff, and the portions are great for the price! If you go for breakfast you HAVE to try the farmers omelette! Delicious! OH and also an all time Any time favorite of mine is their Cheese fries with Gravy! It's a Must Try! You won't regret it and I'm sure you will go back for more!

  • *****

Wow. This place is the best!! I was looking online for places with gluten free pizza and this is not what I was expecting!! When I went to pick it up the owner also mentioned they make gluten free chicken parm. I don't think I've heard such great news since I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy. The pizza is delicious. Not chewy, dry or too thin. They also make really good GF pasta and sandwiches. They sell GF cookies and chocolate cake which are mind blowing! They are really sweet and accommodating to food allergies, so don't let ANYTHING deter you from eating here!!!

  • *****

I usually come to The Green Olive for Breakfast more than any other meal, that's mainly because at the time I was living in Wallingford, it was the best place I found after the Neptune Diner closed last year. I always enjoy breakfast here, but depending on the waitress assigned to our table, service can be either pretty good or not too good. That basically is my only complaint about this place, most items available for Breakfast are good. Still room for improvement, and again don't use a large capacity coffee brew system, so can be waiting for a "pot to drop", more often than not. PAG

  • *****

To say the food is phenomenal is an understatement!!! So happy I came!!! Portions are big. Waitress is so super friendly!!! Beyond satisfied and full from just my app!!

  • *****

I would give 4 stars, but they have made up for every problem I have ever had there.

I usually come here for Breakfast, or Lunch. Everything is larger than usual portions, and tastes great. You will end up taking food home because the dinner portions are so massive.

Friendly staff, nice decor, and a HUGE menu that I've had many items from, with only once having a problem, but otherwise perfect.

  • *****

I have a soft spot for Green Olive because they will deliver waffles at 8pm. The food is not always presented in the prettiest fashion but it's still decent comfort food. There are some hits (the waffles) and some serious misses (the meatloaf) on the menu but that happens. Never had a problem with delivery. Service has always been pleasant and fast.

  • *****

As diners go, the food selection is decent, heavy on the Italian. I ordered only because they have gluten-free food, and a lot of it. We didn't feel like cooking, it's too hot. My husband almost didn't want to order though because of the prices. The prices reflect a higher quality establishment than a diner. I'm used to getting forked with price of gluten-free foods but even the regular was high. I paid $20 for chicken parm over pasta and to be fair... It was a lot of food. And really good. I have enough leftover for a big lunch.

Please avoid the gluten-free cheesecake though. $7 for a tiny slice of a crust less thing that call itself New York cheesecake and is not. I've had better cheesecake from a box mix. I'd be surprised if there was any cream cheese in it.

Staff seemed friendly from what I saw.

  • *****

I can't say enough good things about this place. This is my gluten-free restaurant haven. They have anything a gluten sensitive person could hope for... pizza, calzones, fried mozzarella sticks, pasta, bread, Eggplant parm and more. What's more, the food is good! No one I have brought here has ever been displeased with the food and the customer service is good too.
And... they have outdoor seating. Love that.

  • *****

I went to the Green Olive Diner for the first time the other day. I was very impressed with the excellent job they did remodeling. It is a very clean and comfortable enviroment to dine in. The waitresses were super friendly and the food was great! They have a huge menu and serve pizza, and gluten free foods that other diners dont usually serve. I would highly reccomend this diner to any of my family members or friends. The service is very quick, I only waited about 5 minutes for my food. Perfect place to go on your lunch break! 5 Stars!!

  • *****

Awesome Gluten free food, and I'm picky! Gluten free calzone and waffles are the best. They know their stuff too, many options friendly staff, great service
